Dental emergencies are stressful as they are, especially when you don’t know what to expect when you get to your emergency dentist in Coral Springs. When you’re experiencing pain and are in need of treatment, many people find themselves feeling anxious and nervous. Fortunately, a dentist is here to help. Continue reading to learn about some of the most common dental emergency treatments so you know what to expect once you get to the practice.

Fillings

If your old filling has been lost, damaged, or you have a new cavity that has yet to be treated, your dentist may opt to give you a filling. This minor dental procedure involves them drilling away the decayed portion of your tooth, cleaning it up, and filling it with a tooth-colored composite resin. If deemed necessary, your dentist will administer a local anesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel any discomfort.

Root Canal Therapy

This procedure is likely what will be performed if you have been dealing with a serious toothache. This is a sign that you have an infected tooth. While this treatment may have a bad rep for being painful, the truth is that with modern dental techniques and anesthetics, it is usually no worse than a deep filling. In fact, they will actually relieve a lot of the pain that you have been enduring. During the procedure, your dentist will drill away decay and remove the infected pulp from the inside of the tooth. It will then be cleaned out, filled, sealed. You may also receive a dental crown to protect the tooth from further damage.

Extraction

If a tooth is damaged to a point of no return and a root canal cannot save it, your dentist will have no choice but to extract it entirely. Fortunately, you won’t need to be spending the rest of your life with a gap in your smile. You will be able to explore tooth replacement options with your dentist. This includes dental implants and bridges.

Tooth Reattachment

If you have a knocked-out tooth as a result of an injury or accident, there may still be time to save it. You need to find and gently rinse off your tooth, holding it by the crown. Next, place the tooth back into the socket. If you re unable to do so, keep the tooth in your cheek or a glass of milk in order to keep it moist. Lastly, call your emergency dentist to let them know what happened. If you can get to the office within an hour, your dentist will have the greatest chance at being able to reattach your tooth into its rightful spot.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency, give your dentist a call. By knowing what to expect, you can have peace of mind while in your dentist in Coral Springs’ trusted hands.
